Zoey uscì dalla casetta con in mano il microfono e trovò Vito lì seduto che si abbronzava. Zoey prese tutto il coraggio che aveva e gli urlò:
- Ehi, testa di rapa! Ascolta cosa so fare!
- Si, si. Sbrigati così posso tornare da Anne Maria.
Fece lui con l’aria svogliata ed annoiata.
- MIKE! ASCOLTAMI! Questo è per te!
Zoey chiuse gli occhi e digrignò i denti. Poi si rilassò e cominciò a cantare:

Quando ebbe finito di cantare osservò Mike, che era tornato se stesso, che la guardava a bocca aperta. Lei sorrise soddisfatta asciugandosi il sudore.
- E-ehi, Zoey.
Balbettò lui.
- Dove hai imparato a farlo?!
- Da piccola volevo diventare una cantante e così mi sono esercitata.
- Wow, sei strabiliante.
- Grazie. Ora che fai? Torni dalla tua Anne Maria?
Fece lei girandosi di schiena con le mani incrociate.
- Non ci penso neanche. Ti preferisco di gran lunga.
Le fece avvicinandosi a lei. Zoey si girò. Erano vicinissimi, quasi si baciavano, quando lei inciampò e, cadendo, gli strappò la maglietta che si era rimesso mentre cantava. Così Mike tornò Vito che tornò di corsa al molo.
Zoey si rialzò con un sorriso sgargiante sulle labbra, aveva resistito! Così, si pulì dalla polvere e tornò trotterellando al molo.
