He stared right into the hero’s eyes, every trace of tenderness vanished. He needed to know. He needed to know if he could count on him, if he could trust him with the secret he’d been hiding for a decade, if he’d be by his side until the end, when he’d burn up in flames with his joke of a father. If he’d stay with him even later, should he ever survive. If he’d choose him and whatever little time they still had to share together over his mission and everything he’d ever been before.
